If you are selling anything within these categories, feel at home on TikTok. An app full of young people will not be the right place to sell senior care products or retirement plans.
TikTok brings many marketing opportunities. So, if you are a content creator on TikTok and want to make some money, affiliate marketing is one of those opportunities you are going to make use of.
TikTok affiliate marketing is an arrangement whereby an online retailer pays you a commission for traffic or sales made from your referrals. How do you make those referrals? Steps to make money with affiliate marketing on TikTok.
If you follow the steps below, you will not worry about how users will find your affiliate links and buy products so you can make money.
Step 1. Find a content niche.
To make significant income through affiliate marketing from TikTok, you need thorough planning and preparation from the start. You need to have answers to these three questions.
- What kind of affiliate products do you want to promote?
- What kind of audience are you targeting?
- What kind of content will link that audience with the affiliate products you want to promote?
There has to be a link in the answers to those three questions. The content you make has to attract the audience you want. It also has to interest the audience to buy the affiliate products you are promoting.
Once you figure out that link, you have finished half of the work. Do not be making content about men’s fashion attracting a male audience and then promote female shoes as your affiliate products.
Find your niche and affiliate products that much your audience. The broader the niche, the fewer chances of attracting a following that converts. The narrower the niche the easier it is to attract a following that will easily buy your affiliate products (Conversion).
When it comes to affiliate marketing, it is better to have 20,000 followers with 10,000 of them ready to buy than to have 50,000 followers with only 2000 willing to buy.

Perhaps the hard stage but not as hard as it may sound. Keep calm. I will explain. Once you have figured out the kind of content you should post, get started as soon as you can. Post videos consistently. Let a day not go by with at least a new video posted. If you can, post two to three videos per day.

A very interesting or valuable TikTok video can garner hundreds of thousands of views or even millions in 24 hours. Something very hard or unusual with other platforms like YouTube. All those views can come without you inviting anyone to watch your new video.
You can hit over 10,000 followers in less than a month if you post those short videos consistently.
This answers your question of how hard this step is. It is hard compared to other steps but easy compared to how hard it is on other platforms.
Tips for engaging TikTok content.
- Keep it within one minute. TikTok viewers easily get bored
- Give value after value. It will keep viewers interested and engaged.
- Follow trends. Better to jump on something trending than to start your own trend. Be creative by embedding that trending TikTok dance or song into your niche. If it’s baking cupcakes, dance while baking.
- TikTok algorithm prioritizes videos with a low bouncing rate so make sure your content has viewers finish watching it first before scrolling to the next. You do this by providing value in a short time.
Step3. Find affiliate links and add them to your TikTok account.
At this step, the assumption is that you have already reached 1000 followers or have a business account to be able to add a link in your bio. Possibly, you have reached 10,000 followers to be able to add clickable links to your stories. If all these are checked then let’s go deeper with making money from TikTok using affiliate links.
Find affiliate products that you can sell to your following or generally viewers interested in your content. Like we said earlier, the affiliate products have to be relatable to the content you are posting.

If you want to promote the link using your bio, you have to have at least 1000 followers or a business account. A business account is free. If you do not have a business account,
- Open your TikTok app.
- Go to profile
- Click on the top right menu button
- Go to ‘’manage account’’
- Then second at the bottom click on ‘’switch to business account’’
With either 1000 followers or a business account, you will be able to add your affiliate link to your bio.
Note: In the bio, you can only promote a link to one product. In case you change a product make sure to change the link in the bio as well.
I have found that finding a product with a high commission payout and creating content around it without promoting any other product can be more lucrative and convincing to the psychology of TikTok users.
If you have only an option of only one link in your bio and you keep changing the links, you confuse users who view your previous videos promoting products different from those in the current link.
If possible focus on one product.
If you are promoting multiple products, a better option is to create a landing page with affiliate links to all the products you are selling. Add the link to your landing page in your bio. When users click on it, they can browse through your products and buy as they wish.
A landing page is a single-page website containing links to other sales pages or pages selling products. To build a landing page you can use builders like leadpages, unbounce, clickfunnels, instapage, linktree, etc. Linktree is free and easy.
How about posting affiliate links in your videos or stories? Unfortunately, TikTok does not allow affiliate links to be added to stories even if you have the required minimum of 10,000 followers. It only allows links to your other social sites, a landing page, or a website.
So, if you want to add your affiliate link to your stories, you have to link it to a landing page and then add the link to the landing page in your stories or videos.
Another way to use affiliate marketing on TikTok is using promo codes. In your videos, you can direct viewers to a website with your affiliate products and ask them to enter your affiliate promo code when buying products. Your commission will be sent to you after tracing your referrals with your promo code.
Quick tips to convert users into buyers while promoting your affiliate products.
Provide value in your TikTok videos.
- Use trending hashtags. Two or three hashtags are enough. More will confuse the algorithm
- Capture user details like emails by collecting them from the landing page
- Ensure to highlight a problem (the what) and a solution (the why). What the product is and why they should buy it.
- Make a call to action. If you provide value and do not ask viewers to buy, then they will not think about it. Tell them the product and why they should buy it. Then end by asking them to click on the link in the bio or story to find the product for sale.
Should you use TikTok ads for traffic?
Well, if you have the money, yes it’s worth it. You will get a lot of traffic to your videos in a short time. If you don’t, TikTok organic traffic is good enough to earn you a lot of money from affiliate marketing.
TikTok has advertisement offers that are quite more expensive than other sites. However, their returns are worth it. It is why big brands dominate most of the TikTok ads. They can meet the cost and reap big from them.
TikTok has in-feed ads which appear as normal TikTok videos, brand takeover ads where a video is shown as a full screen engaging and video ad running for 6 seconds, takeover ads that are a hybrid of in-feed and top view ads running for 60seconds and then the hashtag challenge which promotes user-generated content using a custom hashtag.
